2014 3A FHSAA Preseason Top 10 TeamPublished by
Florida 3A Girls Just when the 3A girls thought that it was finally going to be someone else’s turn to hoist the state championship trophy, ending Estero’s three year stranglehold on that hardware, I got some bad news for you. In the off season the Wildcats added top Cypress Lake HS returner Bree Salcedo to the team giving them, along with team leader Daley Cline, an honest chance to put yet another ring on the finger of Coach Sommer.
Now it is not over yet, but with that transfer addition, Coach Stevenson’s Sarasota Sailor squad, lead by Angie Grebe, will be in for a three-way fight down the stretch with the Wildcats and the Seabreeze Sandcrabs for the state title. Ocala Vanguard, Creekside and the Emma Rudman led Fort Walton Beach teams will be in the mix too, for what will be the most interesting classification to watch this fall. Four teams from the super tough Region 3 make the list including the top 2 spots. Region 1 also boasts four teams in the top ten.

Florida 3A Boys Is this the year that some team breaks the Belen Wolverines dominance? Could it be Chiles, Leon or Sarasota standing triumphant on the podium? Maybe, maybe not?
Consider the facts; Coach Ruiz’s teams have won the last four 3A titles having been runner-ups in their first year in the classification to the Matt Mizereck led Leon Lions in 2009. Previous to that they were on a 3 year run of championships in 2A. That’s 7 rings in 8 seasons y’all. Leon is back in the mix again with state leading front man Sukhi Khosla set to close out his high school career with a team crown but first he and the Lions have to get through the toughest region without being worn out going into the state meet. The top ranked Chiles Timberwolves have a 55 second 1-5 split all below 16:45 and the Sarasota Sailors bring the #2 & 3 individuals in 3A in Zack Summerall & Adam Bradtmueller both sub 15:30.
These four teams are going to make this a most enjoyable season to watch as they toe the line week after week. Region 1 dominates the top ten with 5 teams and will certainly leave home some worthy teams after their regional battle is done.
