Every week during the regular cross-country season, we highlight one girl and boy as our FROSH of the Week.  These are runners who will eventually be the Class of 2019.  Our old motto, "The Future Runs Now" is still very much intact as we follow the storylines, careers and future of these honored freshmen.

This week's Girl FROSH of the Week is Mount Dora Christian's Rebecca Clark.

Coach Pruitt - Thank you so much for recognizing Rebecca and Gabe for all their hard work.

I've had the privilege to be one of Rebecca's coaches for the last 3 years. She is one of the most talented, hardworking athletes I've ever seen.  Her performance in the state meet last year really showed what she is capable of. She has a never give up attitude. She worked very hard this summer and that showed in her first race of the season in Deland placing 2nd and setting a new school record for the 5K. Her time in Lecanto was a little slower, but she had put in a hard training week that will help get her time down where she wants it to be. I believe that she will have no problem reaching her goal of under 17 minutes.

Gabe is new to our school and has proven to be a hard worker. He and Rebecca are training partners and push each other in practice. To get consecutive personal records is a great way to start the season. Placing 2nd at Lecanto with a 30 second PR proved that the hard work is paying off. I look forward to seeing how much faster Gabe will be as the season continues.

Rebecca - "This summer was my first summer of higher mileage. I averaged about 40 Miles a week. Once school started on August 10, we had our first practice. The first couple of weeks consisted of light mileage.  The past few weeks we have just started adding some quicker runs. and just recently we have started on speed work.  Our first meet was August 29th at the Deland Invitational.  I ran a pr of 18:24 and placed second behind Rafaella Gibbons.  The next weekend we were at Lecato where I placed first with an 18:53.  I am hoping to win state this year and break 18.  Good luck to everyone this season."

This week's Boy FROSH of the Week is Mount Dora Christian's Gabriel Curtis.

Gabe - "After a long, fun summer of high mileage and trying to build a big base, the season finally stared!  For the first 2 weeks of practice we cut down on miles a bit so our bodies could recover. Around the end of the 2nd and 3rd weeks we started doing some faster workouts in preparation for the Deland Invitational on August 29th. I was very excited for my first race of the season.  It was great to see all my friends from around the state!  It was a tough race for me because I hadn't run a 5K since last season. However, I managed to get a 1 second pr and felt good about it.

The next week, the workouts got a little more intense. We did a track workout. It felt weird going at a fast pace since we hadn't done one in so long. It felt awesome to get my legs moving.  I was ready for me second meet at the Lecanto High School.THere, I ran a near 30 second PR (16:49) and placed second!

Shout out to all my teammates who raced hard even though the course was hilly, and had some amazing finishes! Also, congrats to Rebecca on her win!

GO BULLDOGS!!!!"

There are many factors that come into play when determining the "Frosh of the Week", including; time, place, rank against other freshmen, and overall impact they have on their team. We will not highlight the same Frosh more than once and the honors are purely subjective. If you wish to nominate your athlete for "Frosh of the Week" please e-mail me [email protected] with their name and why they are deserving of the honor.
