During the recent cross country season, Matt Hurst logged a lot of miles.
How many, you may wonder?
"I
got up to about 40 miles a week," the Palatka High School junior
standout said. "I'm definitely planning on going to 50 or 60 a week
heading into next season."
The plan to increase miles for this
past season worked nicely for Hurst, who won his third straight
All-Putnam County championship and then did something he was not able to
do the previous two years - advance to the regional meet.
It is no surprise that for the third straight year, Hurst is
honored as the Daily News' Prep Boys Cross Country Runner of the year.
Hurst is the first three-time recipient. The award was first presented
in 2003 and Putnam County's best runner in the last decade, former
Interlachen star Jeremy Criscione, was only able to win it his junior
and senior years.
