Athlete Blogs - Ka'Deem Wynn: Going For The Wynn (Update #6)

Good evening everyone. I'm uploading late today because I got called in early at work, along with my scheduled shift tonight, so I’ve been at work all day. But why complain? Money is money, right?

Another week down, another step towards the season.

To recap, last week was my fifth week of cross country training. I logged a total of 45.81 miles ran, and 33.6 miles on the bike.

I’m really looking forward to going to camp in a week. All the way in Boone, North Carolina. Far, far away from the Florida heat.

But until then, it's been an interesting week of training. It just occured to me that I do cross-training more often than I thought. From doing circuits at the gym and all of the biking that I've been doing, it's all starting to come together.

Unfortunately, this was a low mileage week. I ran on Monday, and on Tuesday, I woke up not feeling too well, so I didn’t run the 10-miler with the team. Instead, I did all of maybe two miles after work. I still wasn’t feeling well, but I wanted to do something.

After running the Stepping Stones workout Wednesday morning, two other teammates and I met up at the track later in the evening and did a bike workout. We did 8x800-meters with a 400 recovery. I honestly really liked it. We're looking to do it every Wednesday now.

Friday was back at the gym doing more circuits. I’m actually glad that I’m doing all of this cross-training. I wish I had been doing it all this time.

Yesterday, instead of running, a teammate and I met up and went for a 10-mile bike ride. However, since I had to bike to a meeting point, I got a total of 14 miles.

I will say, my sleeping habits have improved over the past week. I started sleeping with an extra pillow under my head, and since then, I've just fallen asleep much quicker and more comfortably.

However, it might me too comfortable. My alarm went off this morning to go for a run, and I overslept. Then, I was up for maybe an hour or two before I was called into work.

In other words: I did not run today.

This week, I ran 29.5 miles. I calculated the amount of miles missed, and I should be at  57.5 miles for this week, which would have been much more than my previous weeks. I expect next week to be somewhere past 50 miles at this point. It's time for the mileage to be higher.

However, I’m happy to say that I’ve biked 58.6 miles over the course of this week.

Despite what happened this week, each day I try to continue to build off of the huge gain in confidence and strength that I've acquired - reflecting on my recent 5K PR, and my past workouts, and how much stronger I've gotten. I look to continue improving, and continue on to a very successful senior year.
