DyeStat Florida's Top 10 Moments of 2016 - Caitlin Collier becomes Florida's Fastest Miler ever - DyeStatFL 2016Published by
Ka'Deem Wynn - Earlier this year, Bolles High School’s Caitlin Collier, who has had one of the most incredible track seasons that we’ve ever seen, established herself as Florida’s fastest female miler in state history after she finished fifth in the Adidas Boost Games Dream 1500, running an outstanding 4:19.05, which, when converted, is 4:38.09 for 1600 and 4:39.7 for a full mile. RELATED - GIRLS HIGH SCHOOL DREAM 1500 Racing among top runners like Nevada Mareno, Katie Rainsberger, and Kate Murphy, Collier got out a bit more conservative, staying towards the back and running on the outside. As the race up front began to quicken and the pack began to split in two, Collier sat closely behind Mareno for a time, before Mareno began to pull away. For the remainder of the race, Collier stayed in fifth, crossing the line in a US no. 6 and Florida no. 1 time of 4:19.05. The race was quick across the board. Kate Murphy won the race in 4:07.21. In addition to running on of the top times in the nation, Collier was the only sophomore in the field.

Collier said that having such a stacked field definitely helped to push her to run the way she did. But Collier didn’t deviate from her plan of essentially even splitting each lap, even when the pace increased and the race truly began to take off. This race was a change in pace for Collier. Not that she hasn’t been challenged in the state of Florida, but a race like this was needed to give her that extra push. In Florida, Collier has been used to being the one up front, the one pushing the pace, having to rely on her foot speed to pull away from competitors, leaving her, in some instances, untouchable. It’s getting around to that time of year when high school athletics takes to the track. What’s in store for Florida’s fastest miler in 2017? There’s only one way to find out, so stick around.
