It’s that time of year again! The cross country season is coming to a close, and seniors are making the ultimate decision to continue their running career at the collegiate level.

HB Plant High School senior and 4A 1600 and 3200 meter state champion Jack Guyton will be join Ryan Rodriguez and Nick Diaz in the fall, at the University of Florida. His coach, Bryan Garcia, is more than proud of his athlete. He knows that this is a huge milestone in Guyton’s life.

“I’m so excited for him,” said Garcia. “It’s a huge opportunity for him to run at that level with that kind of team.

Garcia expressed how he expects nothing but the best from Guyton, and that he’ll continue to positively impact those around him, as well as do whatever is necessary to accomplish his goals.

Passionate, gutsy, and classy. That’s how Garcia describes him. “The way he has progressed over the last four years is testament to what kind of runner he is.”

Garcia also points out that Jack is also a great student and person.

DistancePreps.com writer Ka’Deem Wynn caught up with HB Plant High School Jack and discussed his thoughts on being a Gator.

Ka’Deem Wynn: “Hi Jack. This is Ka’Deem Wynn. I’m a writer at DistancePreps.com.

Congratulations on your recent college commitment! I wanted to know if I could ask you a few questions?”

Jack Guyton: “Thank you! And yes you can ask questions.”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “(In regards to choosing UF) Was it a tough decision? What other schools were you looking at?”

Jack Guyton: “Yes it was extremely difficult. I was looking at FSU, UF, and UNF.”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “What drew you more towards UF?”

Jack Guyton: “It really came down to academics. The main purpose of going to college is to get a good education and I felt like UF would provide the best education. I also feel like UF’s runner program fit me the best.”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “What things do you hope to accomplish by the end of your high school career to  bring to the Gators in the fall?”

Jack Guyton: “I hope to run some fast times and win some big races to bring even more recognition to UF.”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “How does it feel to be a Florida Gator?”

Jack Guyton: “It feels great to have the opportunity to join a team with such great tradition and long history of success and to be able to join some of the fastest runners in the nation.”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “What are your thoughts on knowing that you will have runners like Nick Diaz, Andres Arroyo, and even Arman Hall, as future teammates?”

Jack Guyton: “It’s awesome to say that you’re teammates with the fastest sprinter and middle distance runners in the country. Not to mention, be able to run with Nick Diaz, my state rival, will be awesome because I know we’ll push each other in practice and become good friends. And I can’t forget Ryan Rodriguez. ”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “How does it feel to be starting a new chapter in your life?”

Jack Guyton: “It’ll be nice to get out of high school and have a little more freedom. I’m just extremely happy that I have the opportunity to start fresh at UF and work hard to achieve my goals.”

Ka’Deem Wynn: “Alright Jack. I want to thank you for your time. I had a nice time talking to you, and I will be following the rest of your high school career, as well was your college career over the next few years. I know that your are going to do some pretty amazing stuff in the future.”

Jack Guyton: “Thanks a lot!”
