West Coast Report (February 14 – 17)

It was relatively quite around the west coast sine only the 1A and 2A schools have started their seasons off.

Lemon Bay Invite

There were a few notable times this past weekend including Bayshore’s Canaan Meester-Kitterman winning the 1600 with 4:34 and the 3200 with 10:09 at the Lemon Bay Invite.  I’m looking forward to the Ram Invite where Canaan, Zack Summerall and Adam Bradtmueller of Sarasota, and Blake Riley and Bryce Vokus of Riverview Sarasota are going at it in the 1600.

Lemon Bay’s Abigayle Weinfeld ran away with the 1600 victory with 5:39 along with the 800 in 2:33. Lemon Bay will be running at the Bobcat Relays this Friday.

Immokalee Invite

The most noticeable female athlete was Immokalee’s Anita Munoz winning the 1600 and 3200 with 5:30 and 11:39, respectively.

The freshman from Barron Collier, Devin Molloy, was the runner-up to Anita with 5:32 1600 and 11:50 3200.

Leonel Delacruz of Immokalee continues his great senior campaign taking the 1600/3200 double with a 4:39 1600 and 10:11 3200.

The Immokalee boy’s narrowly defeated Ft. Myers in the 4x800 by three tenths of a second!!

This week we will be seeing a full load of races including Bobcat Relays @ North Port, Bear Track Invitational @ Palmetto Ridge, Ida Baker Indoor/Outdoor Challenge, and the highly anticipated Wharton Wildcat Invitational.

I've been coaching girls cross country since 2010 at Sarasota High School where the girls took 2nd place in the 2013 3A Cross Country State Final. In 2011, I took over the distance track program for both the boys and girls and in 2014 I took the realm as Head Coach of the Boys Track program at SHS. I've been a competitive runner that enjoys the longer distances and triathlete since 2007 and competed in many distances from sprint triathlon to ironman.
