I’m Caroline Barlow, a senior at Gulf Coast high school.

I spent my summer training in Colorado, with Team Prep USA, and felt well prepared for the season. With that, my Coach and I decided to hold off on meets for awhile, as we work to peak at the end of season and felt it would be beneficial to wait before putting my body under the stress of racing season.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to go on a couple college visits, Alabama and University of Florida.

At Alabama I got the chance to catch up with a true inspiration and friend of mine, Olivia Ortiz. She reminded me to make the most of every run, from a simple recovery day to the State Finals.

On my next visit, to Florida, I got to spend time with Emily Edwards who I have been competing against since seventh grade! As it turns out we are practically twins, not only are we both interested in the same profession, but we also ordered the same exact meal three separate times. College visits have definitely been a wonderful experience so far and have made me very excited for my future!

My first real meet was the North Port Invitational where I was lucky enough to go head to head with some of the top girls in the State. I ended up placing second with a time of 18:33, and while it was not exactly what I was hoping for, it was certainly a good place to start!

Last weekend, at the FLRunners.com Invitational, I managed to finish seventh and improve my time by a few seconds, however I was not thrilled about my performance. This race definitely showed me what I need to improve on and gave me the motivation I need to work harder.

This week at school has been our Homecoming Spirit Week and being a senior we got to have special themes for each day. This has really brought our whole class together, and especially the many seniors on our team. Each day has made us bond, laughing over the outrageous outfits on us and our classmates! The laughter has made school days much more enjoyable and practices filled with stories. Being a senior is bittersweet and this week has reminded me to live every second of it to the fullest!

I will not be racing this weekend, as I will be taking the SAT one last time. So, good luck to everyone! Remember to make the most of every opportunity and enjoy high school!
