Hi everyone! I am Kayla Easterly, and I will be a senior at North Fort Myers High School. Going into senior year, the pressure to perform well and reach your ultimate best intensifies immensely. But luckily, summer training is well underway, and will fully prepare me for my last high school cross-country season! As we all know, a runner's summer is everything but: sleeping in, late nights and perfect tans. So, I presume most of you can relate when I say that the majority of my summer has been filled with early morning practices, embarrassingly uneven tan lines and perpetual miles. In order to prepare for my last high school cross country season, my talented coach, Kelly Britton, has planned countless road runs, pain-inflicting workouts (referring to the miserable tempo and progressive runs,) and the best yet, a group cross country camp.
This summer, the central focus has been on mileage. Which essentially means more: long distance runs, double days and road runs. Fortunately for me, I fall in favor of the distance runs as compared to the track workouts. So, indubitably cross-country is my favorite running season. With all this preparation I am completely optimistic of the upcoming season, and am grateful to a have coach that not only physically trains me, but also mentally trains me through my races. As the first meet of the season slowly approaches, I am simultaneously filled with nerves and excitement. Ensuring that all of my hard work pays off is exceptionally overwhelming. However, I am comforted in knowing that when the day comes to toe the starting line, I will be entirely prepared to run a strong time, and will have a great support system waiting for me at the finish line. As this post reaches its end, I would like to thank DyeStatFL.com for this super cool opportunity. I would also like to wish everyone good luck in the upcoming cross-country season. Remember to stay strong during races, and have faith in yourself! I hope everyone's expectations are nothing short of optimism, and much intended progression. See you on the course!
